WorldClass Montesano Coho Salmon Bull Trout Fishing

Chasing Coho and Bull Trout in Montesano's Pristine Waters

Bull Trout and Coho Salmon caught jigging and trolling in Montesano

The river flows swift and cold. Sunlight dances on the surface. We cast our lines into a deep pool. The wait is tense. Suddenly a strike. The rod bends double. A powerful fish fights beneath the water. It breaks the surface in a splash. A bull trout. Its spots glisten. The battle is fierce. We guide it to the shallows. A quick photo then release. The Salvelinus Confluentus swims free. Another day on the water ends. Memories of the fight linger.

Coho Salmon Fishing

Oncorhynchus kisutch, commonly known as coho salmon, thrives in the cool, clear waters of Montesano. These silver-sided fish are prized for their fighting spirit and delectable taste. The day was waning, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows across the river. We had been fishing for hours, our efforts rewarded with a few nice catches, but nothing exceptional. As we approached a deep, swirling pool at a bend in the river, our guide suggested we try one last spot before calling it a day. With renewed hope, we cast our lines into the dark water. The wait was short. My rod suddenly bent almost double, the line cutting through the water as something powerful took the bait. The fight was on, and it was unlike anything I had experienced before. The fish made several powerful runs, each one testing the limits of my gear and my skill. Our guide quickly recognized what we were dealing with - a bull trout, and a big one at that. For what seemed like an eternity, it was just me and this magnificent fish, locked in a battle of wills. Finally, after a grueling struggle, we managed to bring it close enough for netting. As we lifted it from the water, we were in awe of its size and beauty. The bull trout was a masterpiece of nature, its olive-green back dotted with pale yellow spots, its fins edged in white. After a quick measurement and photo, we gently released it back into the cold, clear water. Watching it swim away, I felt a deep sense of respect for these incredible creatures and the wild rivers they call home. It was a perfect end to an unforgettable day on the water, a reminder of why we venture into these pristine wilderness areas in search of such moments of connection with nature.
